What to Expect from this Blog
The purpose of Good on Paper’s blog is to keep you informed of all the news and happenings here at the store. Blog posts will be published on the last Monday of each month. These monthly posts will update you on upcoming events, including book clubs, storytimes, community initiatives, themed book lists, and more! We plan to keep you in the know. You can expect to see the previous month’s bestselling titles, our staff’s current reads, rising literary trends… the list goes on! Stay tuned for all things bookworm.
Additionally, Good on Paper invites you to submit a book review of your favorite or recently read novel. Each month, one customer’s review will be selected and featured in the next update. This customer will also receive 5% off their next purchase!
Please submit your one to three paragraph book review via email to violet@goodonpaperbooks.com. We are excited to see what you have to say. Good luck!

Community Impact
All proceeds from Good on Paper’s grand opening on November 2nd went towards Houston’s public libraries, and we are pleased to report we donated over $600! We also held a canned food drive for Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. To everyone who donated, thank you!
To further celebrate the season of giving and Taylor Swift’s birthday, our bookstore held a Swiftie-themed raffle and donated all $100 of the proceeds to the BEARing Gift Program. We appreciate everyone who participated! Thank you for helping us do a good deed.
Navigating Good on Paper’s Online Site
Book orders and event information and blogs, oh my! Good on Paper’s website is an easy way for you to check upcoming events, find the latest blog post, and place special orders. While our staff is always available to help you place a book order in-store, as fellow bookworms, we understand the desire to stay curled up at home! Our website makes it easy for you to get your hands on the latest read–no matter where you are.
Upcoming Events
Mark your calendars! Starting in January 2025, Good on Paper will host Jen Hadayia’s historical fiction book club. Jen, one of Good on Paper’s dedicated customers, will highlight contemporary female authors. This book club, The Past Tense, will begin reading Jodi Picoult’s Any Other Name on January 20th and meet the fourth Tuesday of each month. Be sure to check our socials to learn how to sign up!
This won't be our only book club–we will be holding two more that are staff-led! Our bookseller Lindsay will ring in Romance Reader’s month with Novel Romantics, a romance-themed book club, in February, and our bookseller Quetzi will launch Timeless, a group dedicated to having modernized conversations on classics like The Great Gatsby in March. Sign up sheets will be posted closer to the start dates on our Instagram and Facebook accounts, so be sure to follow and keep up with us there!
Good on Paper hosted two storytimes this month, and we plan to do more! Michelle, our resident former children’s librarian, will hold her Little Listener’s storytime on the first and third Sunday of each month at 1:30pm. Little Listeners will begin on January 19th with a Martin Luther King Jr. story for an early celebration of MLK Day.
Monthly Recap
Good on Paper’s owner Anna Henry celebrated the holiday season by reading Sheri Wall’s I Am Thankful on November 16th and The Night Before Christmas on December 14th. We were thrilled with how many joined us! Our bestselling book so far was also holiday-themed: Elmo’s Best Thanksgiving Ever flew off the shelves. To quote our owner, “That book sells itself.”
Other notable titles included Brom’s Slewfoot: a Tale of Bewitchery, which sold out even after a reorder, and The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. Both are staff-recommended, so be sure to check them out!
Good on Paper held two free book raffles in November on Black Friday and Shop Small, Sip Small. On Black Friday, customers received free bookmarks with each purchase, and they sipped on free coffees or cranberry orange prosecco punch the next day for the 19th Street tradition.

In December, our hours were extended for Holiday on 19th Street, one of the Heights’ beloved events! We love our location on 19th Street and taking part in the holiday festivities.

As you can see, Good on Paper has done so much already, and there is only more to come. Thank you for visiting us and taking time to check out this blog post. I’ll see you next month!
Excitedly,
Violet
